Chairman's quick notes from the GOL-IN meeting

John Gřtze

Knut Rexed's letter to the GOL-IN members after the meeting in Mexico City, 11-14 September 2001.

21 September 2001

Dear friends and colleagues,

We had a good meeting in Mexico, very much thanks to the inspired and ambitious support given to us by Abraham Sotelo, Tomás Orozco and others from INFOTEC in Mexico. The tragic September 11 events in the United States did however hang as a shadow over our meetings. Our thoughts went to our
American colleagues and the disaster that they now have to handle.

You will get a more extensive report later. For the time being I would just like to signal to you that we agreed that:

- comments, corrections and possible additions to the papers on e-democracy and on portals should be sent to the project leaders (Pauline Poland and Siw Anita Vik) before the end of September;
- they will distribute the final versions in mid-October for last checks & authorisation by the participating parties;
- the projects (or this stage of the projects) will be terminated before the end of October and the final reports made available on the GOL-IN website;
- Mexico and Tomás Orozco has offered to lead a project. Generally, it would concern IT support to administration, but Tomás will distribute a more precise project proposal for comments and discussions;
- Our web will be split in a public sphere and a work space available only to network members;
- We will start a discussion forum on privacy issues on the work space;
- Each country represented in the GOL-IN will be asked to name one national contact point that the Chair can communicate with in membership issues.

Michel de Rocca informed us that France was prepared to host our next meeting, and we thankfully accepted the offer. The meeting would be held during the second half of June 2002, and a permanent date will be announced
early in 2002.

Director-General, Swedish Agency for Public Management
